The New SUVs To Check Out This Year

Discover some of the benefits of buying an SUV this year. Learn about some of the top SUV models from brands like Honda, Hyundai, Nissan and Kia.

In the past, SUVs were too expensive for the average driver. Not only were the vehicles themselves on the pricier side, but you’d spend much more on gas every month compared to most other vehicles. Car companies did not give up on the SUV. Each year, the SUV was redesigned, making it more efficient and adding extra perks. In the present, SUVs are not only an affordable vehicle, but they are much more fuel efficient. There are a variety of SUVs to choose from as well, with most models have additional packages and features to choose from.

There are numerous advantages to owning an SUV over another type of vehicle. Even the smaller sized SUVs offer generous cargo space. SUVs are powerful vehicles, with towing capabilities that can match or even rival some trucks. With so many models to choose from, you can find an SUV for any type of environment, including off road travel. Listed below are some of the top SUVs to keep an eye on in 2024.

2024 Honda CR-V

When it comes to compact SUVs, it is hard to beat the Honda CR-V. It has a stronger engine than most compacts, with nearly 200 horsepower. Like previous Honda SUVs, it also gets good mileage, with around 28 miles in the city, and up to 35 if you drive on the highway. The interior was upgraded from the 2021 CR-V, providing a little more leg room and a classier appearance. It is a versatile vehicle, suited for any environment. Despite the smaller size, there is still a good amount of cargo room in the trunk. The CR-V has minimal infotainment features, making it a good choice if you want a vehicle without any extra perks. The base trim costs $25,000, with advanced packages costing between $26,000 to $30,000. Some of the optional features include additional USB ports, HD radio, moonroof, blind spot monitoring and heated seats.

2024 Hyundai Tucson

Hyundai has consistently produced a compact SUV each year. However, the Tucson often failed to stand out among the competition. It was always considered reliable, but didn’t have enough perks to set it apart from other brands. Hyundai redoubled their efforts for 2024. The new Tucson was completely redesigned from previous years. It now features a premium cabin, with plenty of cargo space and roomy seating. Both the safety features and infotainment layouts were fully revolutionized, with a new user-friendly interface and a larger, 10.25-inch touch screen. Perhaps the best redesigned feature is fuel efficiency, able to get around 30 miles to the gallon for both city and highway driving. The extra features do come at an increased cost, but early reviewers say it is worth the price. As of writing, the Tucson goes for around $25,000 to $36,000, based on which package you choose.

2024 Kia Telluride

While many drivers prefer a compact SUV because of the better gas mileage, some drivers prefer an SUV with more space and power. The Telluride was designed as a family sized SUV. Under the hood it has a 3.8-liter V6 engine, making it much more powerful than a compact SUV. This comes with reduced mileage, only getting around 20 miles driving in the city, or 26 on the highway. With a towing attachment, the Telluride can pull an impressive 5,000 pounds. The Telluride includes additional tech features lacking in older models, including backup cameras and adaptive cruise control. The headlights come with optional fog lamps. You can also get remote start and keyless entry. The base model is around $30,000 to $32,000.

2024 Nissan Ariya

Nissan was one of the first SUV manufacturers to design electric vehicles. While the Nissan Leaf was considered impressive for the time, it was soon outpaced by other electric models. In 2024, Nissan is introducing the Ariya, a five-seat crossover SUV. The Ariya is available with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models. Unlike previous models, the Ariya uses CCS fast-charging. There are two battery packs available, standard and long-range. The long-range battery lasts for roughly 300 miles. The Ariya has updated safety features, including ProPilot Assist. The current estimated price is around $40,000, but this may change as a final release date is reached.

2024 Genesis GV70

The GV70 is the second luxury crossover SUV produced by Genesis, which is a spinoff company of Hyundai. The GV70 focuses more on power and speed compared to other vehicles, with a 300-horsepower 2.5-liter turbo engine. You can get an upgraded trim, boosting the engine to a twin-turbo 375-horsepower V6. Both options come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The infotainment screen uses a large, 14.5 display console. It is also controllable either by a central dial or voice commands, making it easier to use while on the road. The overall appearance is much sleeker than other SUVs. Despite being a more powerful vehicle, it still gets decent gas mileage, close to 30 when driving on the highway or 25 in the city. As of writing, the GV70 goes for $41,000. Because it was one of the first SUVs released in 2024, the price is expected to go down later in the year.
